JBT Corporation installs 3 systems in the pharmaceutical industry

Chalfont, 24 June 2012 – JBT Corporation is a leading global supplier of automatic guided vehicle (AGV) systems used to transport materials in a variety of manufacturing and warehousing applications. JBT has three recent installations in the pharmaceutical industry that have reduced costs and improved operational efficiency.

Novartis UK, a UK affiliate of Swiss based Novartis AG, implemented Automated Guided Vehicles to help transport egg tray trolleys used in the culture of vaccines throughout their facility. The six forked vehicles operate in three main areas of the plant and are responsible for transporting full and empty trolleys to the various processing and testing machines. Operators are able to command the AGVs to use specific trolley pick-up and drop- off locations using handheld PDAs with simple drop down menus.

Baxter, a leading global player in the healthcare industry, installed Automated Guided Vehicles to move finished goods throughout their facility. The forked AGVs transport finished goods from the packaging area to shipping.

Perrigo, a leading global healthcare supplier, implemented Automated Guided vehicles to help with the movement of materials in their facility. The 27 vehicle system with four different types of vehicles is used for material movement to support production and work in the warehouse.

Each application provided several benefits over other material handling methods. In addition to labour and equipment cost savings, plant safety was improved, product damage was reduced, and productivity was improved with the timely delivery of material. JBT’s AGVs are cGMP compliant and are able to interface with SAP. 

JBT also supplies AGVs used in the Hospital, Warehousing, Automotive, Food, Printing, Manufacturing, and Paper Industries. JBT’s European operation for AGVs is based out of Leicester, UK and is the only AGV supplier that designs and manufactures vehicles in the UK.
