Industore Complete Nine Machine Sale to Abbott Ireland

Industore has just completed the sale of 9 Hänel Lean-Lifts to the international pharmaceutical company Abbott to their diabetes care and research facility in Donegal, Ireland. Abbott is a leader in the diabetics field designing, developing and manufacture leading-edge glucose monitoring systems to help patients better manage their diabetes.

Opened in 2006, Abbott’s Donegal site has become the sole worldwide manufacturer of the Freestyle range of diagnostic test strips, manufactured to meet the rapid growth in demand for diabetes care built from the increased incidence and detection of diabetes worldwide.

The site has seen, and continues to see, considerable growth. This includes the introduction of new packaging lines and manufacturing equipment to provide to help meet the demands in supplying the global market for Freestyle Strips. This expansion has been made possible through significant financial investment. Huge internal reconstruction has improved the layout of the plant and equipment has been upgraded to improve efficiency and environmental performance.

Part of this expansion has seen Abbott seek out intuitive floor space saving solutions to help increase their storage space and improve their overall operational efficiency. They did this through approaching Industore, a leader in automated storage solutions, to install 9 Hänel Lean-Lifts to hold samples, financial documents and engineering spares.

The Donegal site had experience of other automated storage solutions, however after visiting some of their sister plants where a number of Lean-Lifts are also operation – and hearing the positive recommendations – they were convinced that their expansion demanded the best solution for the job and thus they swiftly ordered 9 Lean-Lifts.”
